Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Place the cubes of brioche bread into the prepared baking dish, distributing it evenly.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
- Pour the custard mixture over the bread, making sure all the pieces are well soaked. Gently press down on the bread to ensure it’s all covered.
- For best results, cover with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour or overnight.
Baking
- Sprinkle brown sugar evenly over the top of the casserole and bake in the preheated oven for about 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden and caramelized.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
Use brioche for best flavor, but challah or French bread works too. Letting the mixture rest overnight provides a richer flavor. Keep an eye on it around the 30-minute mark to avoid over-baking.
