Preparation
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the chopped Vidalia onions and sauté for about 10-12 minutes, or until they become golden and soft.
- Once the onions are caramelized, add the minced garlic and sauté for another 2 minutes until fragrant.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, and half of the shredded cheese. Mix until fully combined.
- Add the sautéed onion and garlic mixture to the bowl. Stir well to combine all the flavors. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Baking
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the mixture into a baking dish and evenly spread it out.
- Sprinkle the remaining shredded cheese on top of the dip.
- Place the dish in the oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until the dip is bubbly and golden on top.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. It’s perfect with crackers, bread, or fresh veggie sticks!
Notes
For a lighter version, substitute Greek yogurt for sour cream. Properly caramelizing the onions enhances sweetness. Store leftovers in an airtight container for 3-4 days. Reheat before serving.
