  • 1 cup sour cream Can be substituted with Greek yogurt.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese Mozzarella or cheddar are recommended.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For sautéing the onions.
  • 2-3 cloves garlic, minced Add for flavor, but don't overpower the onions.
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper Adjust to taste.
  • Salt to taste

Method

Preparation
  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped Vidalia onions and sauté for about 10-12 minutes, or until they become golden and soft.
  3. Once the onions are caramelized, add the minced garlic and sauté for another 2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, and half of the shredded cheese. Mix until fully combined.
  5. Add the sautéed onion and garlic mixture to the bowl. Stir well to combine all the flavors. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the mixture into a baking dish and evenly spread it out.
  2. Sprinkle the remaining shredded cheese on top of the dip.
  3. Place the dish in the oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until the dip is bubbly and golden on top.
  4. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. It’s perfect with crackers, bread, or fresh veggie sticks!

Notes

For a lighter version, substitute Greek yogurt for sour cream. Properly caramelizing the onions enhances sweetness. Store leftovers in an airtight container for 3-4 days. Reheat before serving.
