Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper.
- Lay the Saltine crackers in a single layer on the baking sheet.
Making the Toffee Sauce
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the unsalted butter and brown sugar.
- Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring continually until it’s thickened and bubbling for about 3-5 minutes.
Assembling the Candy
- Carefully pour the toffee mixture over the Saltine crackers.
- Bake for about 5-7 minutes or until the toffee is bubbling.
- Remove the baking sheet from the oven and scatter the chocolate chips over the hot toffee.
- Allow the chocolate to melt, then gently spread it over the entire surface.
- If desired, sprinkle the chopped nuts over the melted chocolate and finish with a light sprinkle of sea salt.
Cooling and Serving
- Allow the cracker candy to cool for about an hour at room temperature.
- Once fully set, break the candy into pieces and enjoy.
Notes
Store in an airtight container. Keeps at room temperature for about a week, in the refrigerator for up to two weeks, and can be frozen for up to three months.
