  • 1 tablespoon baking powder Ensure it's fresh for best rising.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Balances the flavors.
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup milk Whole or 2% milk works well.
  • 1/4 cup olive oil Extra virgin olive oil adds flavor.
  • 1 large egg Room temperature egg is preferred.
Cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (such as cheddar or mozzarella) Experiment with different cheeses for unique flavors.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and Italian herbs. Whisk together until mixed.
  3. Fold in the shredded cheese, ensuring even distribution.
Mixing
  1. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, olive oil, and egg until combined.
  2. Make a well in the center of the dry mixture and gradually pour in the wet mixture, stirring gently until combined. Do not over-mix.
Baking
  1. Grease a baking dish or line it with parchment paper. Pour the bread mixture into the dish and smooth the top.
  2. Bake for about 30 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Serving
  1. Allow the bread to cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm or let cool completely for later.

Notes

For variations, consider adding sun-dried tomatoes or olives. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
