Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook your ground beef or chicken until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Stir in the taco seasoning according to package instructions. Mix well and incorporate the diced bell peppers and onions. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the veggies soften slightly.
- Roll out the crescent roll dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Arrange the dough in a rectangle, sealing any perforations.
Assembly
- Spoon the beef mixture down the center of the dough, leaving space on each side for braiding. Sprinkle cheese over the filling.
- Cut slits along the edges of the dough, about 1-inch apart. Fold the dough over the filling, alternating sides, to create a braid effect.
Cooking
- Place in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let it cool slightly, then sprinkle with chopped cilantro, and serve with salsa and guacamole on the side. Enjoy!
Notes
Substitute meat with lentils or black beans for a vegetarian option. Watch the baking time closely; cover with foil if the top is golden but the inside isn't done. Avoid over-filling the braid to prevent leaks during baking.
