Preparation
- Start by chopping the cabbage into manageable pieces, avoiding too small cuts as they will wilt down significantly.
Cooking
- In a large skillet, add some oil and heat over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and cook for about 3-4 minutes until they are soft and slightly caramelized.
- Toss in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
- Slowly add the chopped cabbage to the pan, stirring well to coat it in the onion and garlic mixture.
- Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste. If you like it spicy, add in those red pepper flakes!
- Sauté the cabbage for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it becomes tender yet has a lovely golden brown color.
- Remove from heat and serve hot.
Notes
For a Halal-friendly option, consider using turkey or plant-based bacon. Adjust cooking time for desired cabbage texture: about 10 minutes for crunchier, up to 15 for softer cabbage. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for a month.
