Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 head cabbage, chopped Make sure to chop into manageable pieces.
  • 1 large onion, chopped Use a yellow or sweet onion for best flavor.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Add more if you love garlic!
  • Salt and pepper to taste Adjust according to preference.
  • Red pepper flakes Optional for added heat.

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by chopping the cabbage into manageable pieces, avoiding too small cuts as they will wilt down significantly.
Cooking
  1. In a large skillet, add some oil and heat over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and cook for about 3-4 minutes until they are soft and slightly caramelized.
  2. Toss in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  3. Slowly add the chopped cabbage to the pan, stirring well to coat it in the onion and garlic mixture.
  4. Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste. If you like it spicy, add in those red pepper flakes!
  5. Sauté the cabbage for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it becomes tender yet has a lovely golden brown color.
  6. Remove from heat and serve hot.

Notes

For a Halal-friendly option, consider using turkey or plant-based bacon. Adjust cooking time for desired cabbage texture: about 10 minutes for crunchier, up to 15 for softer cabbage. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for a month.
