  • 12 oz egg noodles
  • 1 lb ground beef (or turkey) Can substitute with a plant-based alternative.
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cups sour cream Low-fat option can be used.
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup (10.5 oz) Can use homemade equivalent.
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or a blend)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • to taste Salt and pepper
Garnish (Optional)
  • to taste chopped parsley For garnish.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large pot, cook the egg noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef along with the chopped onion until the meat is cooked through. Drain any excess fat.
Mixing and Layering
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked noodles, browned meat, sour cream, cream of mushroom soup, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well to ensure everything is evenly coated.
  2. Lightly grease a 9x13-inch casserole dish. Pour half of the noodle mixture into the bottom and spread it evenly. Top with half of the shredded cheese. Repeat layers, finishing with the remaining cheese on top.
Baking
  1. Cover the casserole with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  2. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  3. Once done, let it cool for a few minutes, then garnish with chopped parsley if desired. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

This dish pairs wonderfully with a crisp salad, garlic bread, or steamed vegetables. Watch the bake time closely to avoid a dry dish.
