Preparation
- Start by gathering all the ingredients. Chop the onions and mince the garlic.
- In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, breadcrumbs, diced onions, garlic, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and thyme. Mix until well combined but don’t overwork the meat!
- Form the mixture into a loaf shape that fits comfortably in your crock pot.
- Place the loaf in the crock pot, and top it off with ketchup. Spread it entirely over the top for maximum flavor.
Cooking
- Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours. The meatloaf is fully cooked when the internal temperature reaches 160°F (72°C).
Serving
- Once it’s ready, carefully remove the meatloaf and let it rest for about 10 minutes before slicing.
Notes
For variations, feel free to use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version. Substitute breadcrumbs with crushed oats or almond flour for gluten-free. Check the internal temperature before time ends to prevent overcooking. Avoid compacting the mixture too tightly to maintain an airy texture.
