Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb ground beef (or any Halal-friendly ground meat)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (use whole wheat or gluten-free if desired)
  • 1/2 cup diced onions
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup milk (or unsweetened plant-based milk)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (ensure it’s Halal)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme (optional) Can be omitted if desired.
  • 1/4 cup ketchup (for the topping) Spread over the top of the meatloaf.

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by gathering all the ingredients. Chop the onions and mince the garlic.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, breadcrumbs, diced onions, garlic, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and thyme. Mix until well combined but don’t overwork the meat!
  3. Form the mixture into a loaf shape that fits comfortably in your crock pot.
  4. Place the loaf in the crock pot, and top it off with ketchup. Spread it entirely over the top for maximum flavor.
Cooking
  1. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours. The meatloaf is fully cooked when the internal temperature reaches 160°F (72°C).
Serving
  1. Once it’s ready, carefully remove the meatloaf and let it rest for about 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

For variations, feel free to use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version. Substitute breadcrumbs with crushed oats or almond flour for gluten-free. Check the internal temperature before time ends to prevent overcooking. Avoid compacting the mixture too tightly to maintain an airy texture.
