  • 4 pieces French rolls or baguettes Look for fresh, crusty rolls at your local bakery.
  • 2 cups beef broth or prepared au jus Warm for dipping.
  • Onions (optional, sautéed) Sautéed until golden brown, if using.
  • Swiss cheese (optional) Add on top of the beef if desired.
  • Salt and pepper To taste.

Preparation
  1. In a medium saucepan, heat the beef broth over medium heat until it starts to simmer.
  2. If you choose to add onions, slice them and sauté in a bit of oil or butter over medium heat until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Slice the French rolls or baguettes down the middle and lightly toast them in the oven for about 5 minutes, until slightly crispy.
Assembly
  1. Layer sliced roast beef generously into each toasted roll.
  2. If using sautéed onions and Swiss cheese, add them on top of the beef.
Serving
  1. Serve each sandwich with a small bowl of warm beef broth or au jus for dipping.

Notes
