Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 pounds chicken pieces (boneless, skinless preferred)
  • 2 tablespoons black pepper (freshly ground for the best flavor)
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (or a Halal-friendly oil of your choice)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (ensure it’s Halal-certified)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by cutting the chicken into bite-sized pieces. Rinse and pat them dry to ensure a good sear.
  2. In a bowl, mix the chicken pieces with salt and black pepper. Let it marinate for about 10 minutes.
Cooking
  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the marinated chicken. Cook for about 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally, until the chicken is browned and cooked through.
  2. Add minced garlic and ginger to the pan. Sauté for another 2-3 minutes, allowing those fragrant aromas to fill your kitchen.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, cornstarch, and water. Pour this mixture over the chicken in the skillet.
  4. Continue to cook for an additional 5 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and coat the chicken evenly.
  5. Once the sauce has thickened, remove from heat. Garnish with chopped green onions before serving.

Notes

For a meatless version, consider substituting chicken with tofu or paneer. Properly store chicken before cooking to ensure freshness and flavor. Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 2 months.
