Ingredients

Meat and Vegetables
  • 1 lb ground beef (or thinly sliced halal steak) Ensure it's halal if preferred.
  • 1 cup onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup green bell pepper, thinly sliced
Cheese and Seasoning
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1-2 tablespoons olive oil
  • to taste Salt and pepper
Wrap and Frying
  • 8 egg roll wrappers Check for halal certification.
  • vegetable oil for frying

Method

Cooking
  1. In a skillet over medium heat, heat the olive oil. Add your ground beef or sliced steak. Season with salt and pepper, cooking until browned (about 5-7 minutes).
  2. Stir in the sliced onions and green peppers, cooking for an additional 5-6 minutes until they soften. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  3. Once the meat and veggies have cooled, add the shredded mozzarella cheese to the mixture.
Assembling
  1. On a clean surface, lay out an egg roll wrapper. Place about 2-3 tablespoons of the filling in the center. Fold the bottom edge over the filling, fold in the sides, and then roll tightly upwards. Use a dab of water to seal the edge.
Frying
  1. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully place egg rolls in the oil, frying them until they are golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
  2. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Serving
  1. Enjoy your Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls hot, paired with your favorite dipping sauce, whether that’s ranch, salsa, or a sweet and spicy dip!

Notes

Make it Halal: Ensure you use halal ground beef or steak. Try Alternative Fillings: You can get creative with veggies like mushrooms or even try swapping out the beef for chicken or plant-based proteins for a twist. Fry Temperature: Ensure your oil is hot enough before frying for the best results. Timing: Prepare your filling ahead of time for quicker assembly.
