Method
Prepare the Secret Sauce
- In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well blended. Set aside.
Cook the Onions
- In a skillet over medium heat, add 1 tablespoon of butter and sauté the sliced onions until they’re golden and soft, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
Form the Patties
- In a bowl, season the ground beef with salt and pepper. Divide it into four equal portions and form them into patties.
Grill the Patties
- In the same skillet, add a little more butter and cook the patties over medium heat for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired doneness. Place a slice of cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking to allow it to melt.
Assemble the Melt
- Heat a griddle or another skillet over medium heat. Butter one side of a slice of bread and place it butter-side down on the skillet. Spread a generous amount of secret sauce on top. Layer on one cheesy patty, some sautéed onions, and more sauce. Top with another slice of bread (butter-side up). Cook for 3-4 minutes, then flip and brown the other side.
Serve Hot
- Repeat with the remaining ingredients, serve warm, and enjoy your delicious Patty Melt with Secret Sauce!
Notes
Feel free to substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option. Adjust cooking time based on the meat’s lean-to-fat ratio for optimal juiciness. Ensure your skillet is hot before adding the patties for a perfect sear.
