Preparation
- In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes foamy.
- Add the salt and flour to the yeast mixture, mixing with a wooden spoon until a dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl and cover with a damp cloth for 30 minutes to rise.
Cooking
- Set your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope. Place a piece of mozzarella in the center and then fold the dough around it, sealing it well.
- In a large pot, boil 2-3 quarts of water and add the baking soda. Carefully drop the pretzels into the boiling water, one at a time, for about 30 seconds. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Place the boiled pretzels on the prepared baking sheet. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with sea salt.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Allow them to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your Mozzarella Stuffed Soft Pretzels while they’re warm!
Notes
Make sure your water is warm but not too hot when activating the yeast. Seal the dough tightly around the cheese to prevent leaking. Experiment with different toppings like garlic powder or everything bagel seasoning for a unique twist.
