  • 1 lb flank steak, sliced thinly Key ingredient for tenderness.
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil For cooking the beef.
  • 2 pieces green onions, sliced For garnish.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Adds aroma and flavor.
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce Base of the sauce.
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar For sweetness in the sauce.
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch Used for thickening the sauce.
  • 1 tablespoon water To help mix the marinade.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Slice the flank steak thinly against the grain for tenderness.
  2. In a bowl, mix the soy sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, and water until well combined.
Cooking
  1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the vegetable oil and let it heat until shimmering.
  2. Add the beef strips to the skillet in a single layer and cook for about 2-3 minutes until browned.
  3. Toss in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  4. Carefully add the marinade to the skillet, stir, and let it bubble for about 2 more minutes until the sauce thickens.
  5. Just before serving, stir in the sliced green onions.

Notes

For best results, freeze the steak for 30 minutes to ease slicing. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat gently to avoid drying out.
