Ingredients

Pasta and Sauce
  • 12 ounces spaghetti (uncooked) Cook according to package instructions.
  • 24 ounces marinara sauce
  • 1 pound ground beef or ground chicken (Halal-friendly) Choose according to preference.
Cheese Mixture
  • 2 cups cottage cheese
  • 1.5 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (plus more for topping)
  • 1 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
Seasonings and Other Ingredients
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 each egg

Method

Preparation
  1. Begin by boiling a pot of salted water. Add the spaghetti and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook your choice of ground beef or ground chicken until browned. Drain excess fat and stir in the marinara sauce. Allow it to simmer for about 5 minutes.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine cottage cheese, 1 cup of mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, egg, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until well-blended.
Assembly
  1. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the spaghetti, followed by the meat sauce, and then the cheesy mixture. Top with the remaining spaghetti and sprinkle generously with mozzarella cheese.
Baking
  1. Cover with foil and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
Serving
  1. Remove from the oven, and let it cool for 5-10 minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

For added flavor, sauté chopped onions, bell peppers, or mushrooms with the meat. You can also substitute quinoa for a healthier option. Don't skip the cooling time for better slicing and serving. If the cheese browns too quickly, cover it with foil to prevent burning.
