Preparation
- Select a large potato that feels firm and free from blemishes.
- Wash the potato thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt, then dry it with a clean towel.
- Poke several holes in the potato with a fork to allow steam to escape.
- Sprinkle a pinch of salt over the skin to enhance flavor, if desired.
Cooking
- Place the potato on a microwave-safe plate.
- Microwave on high for about 4-6 minutes, depending on the size of your potato and wattage of your microwave.
- Check for doneness by poking it with a fork; if it slides in easily, it’s done. If not, microwave in 1-minute intervals until cooked.
- Let the potato rest for 2-3 minutes before handling, as it will be hot.
- Slice it open, add butter if desired, and top with your favorite toppings.
Notes
Store leftover cooked potatoes in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat in the microwave or a preheated oven at 350°F.
