Ingredients

For the salmon
  • 4 pieces salmon fillets Fresh or thawed
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup For sweetness
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar A great substitution for bourbon
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce For umami flavor
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Adds fragrance
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard For a slight tang
  • Salt and pepper to taste For seasoning
  • Chopped green onions for garnish To add crunch and flavor

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by gathering all your ingredients. Pat the salmon fillets dry with a paper towel.
Make the Glaze
  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, minced garlic, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper until well combined.
Cooking the Salmon
  1. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add a small amount of oil to the pan.
  2. Once hot, add the salmon fillets, skin-side down.
  3. Let the fillets sear for about 4-5 minutes without moving them.
Finishing Touches
  1. Carefully flip the salmon fillets over and pour the glaze mixture over them.
  2. Continue to cook for an additional 4-5 minutes, basting the fish with the sauce.
  3. Cook until the salmon flakes easily and its internal temperature registers 145°F.
  4. Remove the salmon from the heat and sprinkle with chopped green onions before serving.
Serving
  1. Plate the salmon with a drizzle of the glaze and serve hot!

Notes

If you don’t have maple syrup, consider using honey, and feel free to switch the mustard. Apple cider vinegar is a fantastic substitute for bourbon.
