Preparation
- Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). This will ensure that your meatballs cook evenly.
- Prepare the Meatball Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, parsley, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and the beaten egg. Mix until just combined—take care not to overmix.
- Shape the Meatballs: With wet hands, shape the mixture into meatballs about the size of golf balls. Arrange them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Cooking
- Bake the Meatballs: Bake in your preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until they are fully cooked and golden brown.
- Warm the Marinara Sauce: While your meatballs are baking, heat the marinara sauce in a saucepan on low heat.
Assembly
- Assemble the Subs: Once the meatballs are done, place 3-4 meatballs in each sub roll, generously ladling marinara sauce over them.
- Add the Cheese: Top with shredded mozzarella cheese—feel free to be generous here!
- Final Bake: Return the assembled subs to the oven for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven, garnish with fresh basil if desired, and serve hot.
Notes
Storing leftover subs is easy! Place them in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3-4 days. For longer storage, freeze meatballs separately for up to 3 months.
