Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until smooth.
- Gradually add flour and salt, mixing until you get a crumbly texture.
- Press the mixture into the bottom of a greased baking pan evenly.
Baking the Base
- Bake for about 15 minutes or until lightly golden.
Making the Caramel
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the granulated sugar and heavy cream. Stir constantly until the sugar dissolves and the mixture begins to bubble.
- Cook for another 3-4 minutes until thickened.
- Remove from heat and gently fold in sea salt to the caramel mixture.
Combining and Final Bake
- Pour the caramel layer over the baked crust, ensuring it spreads evenly.
- Return to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes.
Cooling and Serving
- Let the bars cool completely in the pan before slicing them into squares.
- Dust with extra sea salt if desired, and serve.
Notes
For a richer flavor, drizzle extra caramel or sprinkle additional sea salt on top before serving. These bars can be served with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
