Preparation
- Rinse the cranberries under cold water and remove any stems.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed cranberries, honey, orange zest, orange juice, ground cinnamon, salt, and water.
Cooking
- Place the saucepan over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil while stirring occasionally, allowing the cranberries to start popping.
- Lower the heat and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, until it thickens as the cranberries break down.
- Once thickened, remove from heat and allow to cool at room temperature. The sauce will continue to thicken as it cools.
- Transfer to a serving dish or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to enjoy.
Notes
Adjust the honey for sweetness preference. For variations, try adding a pinch of nutmeg or a splash of pomegranate juice. Let the sauce sit in the refrigerator for a few hours or overnight for improved flavor.
