Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 12 oz fresh cranberries Make sure to choose fresh cranberries for best flavor.
  • 1 cup honey Preferably local honey.
  • 1 large orange (zest and juice) Zest and juice for flavor.
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon For warmth and aroma.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup water

Method

Preparation
  1. Rinse the cranberries under cold water and remove any stems.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed cranberries, honey, orange zest, orange juice, ground cinnamon, salt, and water.
Cooking
  1. Place the saucepan over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil while stirring occasionally, allowing the cranberries to start popping.
  2. Lower the heat and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, until it thickens as the cranberries break down.
  3. Once thickened, remove from heat and allow to cool at room temperature. The sauce will continue to thicken as it cools.
  4. Transfer to a serving dish or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to enjoy.

Notes

Adjust the honey for sweetness preference. For variations, try adding a pinch of nutmeg or a splash of pomegranate juice. Let the sauce sit in the refrigerator for a few hours or overnight for improved flavor.
