Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound steak (flank, sirloin, or your favorite Halal cut)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 bell pepper (any color, sliced)
  • 1 onion (sliced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • to taste Salt
  • 2 cups cooked rice (white or brown)
Optional Toppings
  • avocado for serving
  • fresh cilantro for serving
  • lime wedges for serving
  • shredded cheese (Halal) for serving

Method

Preparation
  1. Thinly slice your steak against the grain for tenderness.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the sliced steak with olive oil, cumin, paprika, chili powder, black pepper, and salt. Let it marinate while you preheat the skillet.
Cooking
  1. Preheat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the seasoned steak.
  2. Sauté the steak for about 3-4 minutes until it’s nicely browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the remaining olive oil if needed. Add the sliced bell pepper and onion, cooking for about 5-7 minutes until they’re soft and slightly caramelized. Add the minced garlic for the last minute!
  4. Return the steak to the skillet, stirring everything together for an additional minute to blend the flavors.
Serving
  1. In a bowl, layer the cooked rice and top it with the sizzling steak and vegetable mixture. Dress it with your choice of toppings and enjoy!

Notes

For substitutions, consider grilled chicken or tofu for a veggie-packed option. Ensure your skillet is hot before adding the steak to seal in flavor. Avoid overcooking the steak to keep it tender.
