- Start by gathering all your ingredients. Mince the garlic, and measure out the spices and crushed tomatoes.
- In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly to prevent burning.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes carefully to prevent splattering. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 5 minutes.
- Add the dried oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir and let it simmer for another 5-10 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.
- Taste the sauce and adjust the seasonings as needed.
- Let the sauce cool before using it on your pizza. If saving for later, transfer to an airtight container.
Notes
For even more flavor, feel free to use fresh herbs instead of dried. Double the amounts. San Marzano tomatoes offer fantastic flavor if you can find them. Make a double batch and freeze the extra for busy weeknights.
