Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 cups ripe tomatoes, diced Choose plump, ripe tomatoes for maximum flavor or canned tomatoes to save time.
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (or honey)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by dicing your fresh tomatoes. If you’re using canned tomatoes, simply measure them out and drain any excess liquid.
Cooking
  1. In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the diced tomatoes, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper.
  2. Over medium heat, bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Stir occasionally and let it cook for about 15 minutes, until the tomatoes break down and the mixture thickens.
  3. Remove from heat. For a smoother texture, transfer the mixture to a blender and blend until you achieve your desired consistency. If you prefer a chunkier ketchup, you can use a potato masher instead!
  4. Let it cool to room temperature. Transfer your homemade ketchup into an airtight container or jar.
  5. Store it in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld beautifully!

Notes

Your Healthy Homemade Ketchup can last in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. To freeze, use ice cube trays and transfer the cubes into a freezer-safe bag for easy portioning. Thaw or gently warm as needed.
