Ingredients

Meatball Mixture
  • 1 pound ground lamb
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon fresh oregano, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
Sauce
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • Olive oil for cooking

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground lamb, ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, fresh oregano, fresh parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix everything together until well combined.
  2. Take small portions of the mixture and roll them into meatballs about the size of a golf ball.
Cooking
  1. In a large skillet, heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium heat. Gently place the meatballs into the skillet, ensuring there’s space between each one. Brown them for about 5-6 minutes, turning occasionally to achieve an even cook.
  2. Once the meatballs are browned, add the sliced mushrooms into the skillet. Then pour in the tomato sauce, stirring gently to combine. Allow everything to simmer together for 20-25 minutes on low heat.
Serving
  1. Once cooked through, serve the meatballs hot over rice, pasta, or with a hearty loaf of bread to soak up that delicious sauce.

Notes

Feel free to swap ground lamb for turkey or chicken for a leaner option. Ensure that the meatballs cook fully in the sauce for the best flavor. Avoid overcrowding the skillet to prevent meatballs from breaking apart.
