  • 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced (Yukon Gold work wonderfully) Opt for starchy potatoes for the best texture.
  • 2 cups heavy cream For a lighter sauce, substitute half with milk.
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced Add delicious garlicky flavor.
  • 1 cup fresh basil, chopped Fresh herbs elevate the dish.
  • to taste salt Adjust to preference.
  • to taste pepper Adjust to preference.
Optional Topping
  • ½ cup Parmesan cheese, grated For a savory crust on top.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream, minced garlic, chopped basil, salt, and pepper. Whisk gently until well combined.
  3. In a greased baking dish, start layering your sliced potatoes. Pour a portion of the cream mixture over the first layer.
  4. Continue layering the remaining potatoes and cream mixture until all are used, finishing with a layer of cream on top.
  5. If using, sprinkle Parmesan cheese over the top.
Baking
  1. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
  2. Uncover and bake for an additional 15–20 minutes until the top is golden and the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.
Serving
  1. Let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with a sprinkle of fresh basil before serving.

Notes

For the best texture, opt for starchy potatoes. If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container for up to three days. Reheat at 350°F (175°C) until warmed through.
