  • 12 slices slices of bread (preferably day-old or stale for better absorption) Use a hearty type like challah or brioche for the best texture.
  • 6 large large eggs Ensure eggs are at room temperature for fluffiest result.
  • 2 cups milk (whole or low-fat)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup (for serving)
  • Powdered sugar (for serving) Optional, for serving.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
  3. Cut the bread into cubes.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  5. Add the cubed bread to the egg mixture, stirring gently to ensure all pieces are coated. Let sit for about 10 minutes.
Baking
  1. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  2. Bake for 45-50 minutes until the top is golden brown and the center is set.
  3. Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving. Drizzle with maple syrup and sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Notes

Store leftover French Toast Bake in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave.
