Preparation
  1. Begin by tearing the day-old bread into bite-sized pieces, placing them into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, salt, and maple syrup until fully combined.
  3. Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread, ensuring that all pieces are soaked.
  4. Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least an hour (or overnight for best results) so the bread can absorb the custard.
Baking
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Remove the plastic wrap and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set.
  2. Let it cool slightly before cutting into squares. Serve warm with your favorite toppings!

Notes

For best results, use day-old bread and let the custard absorb for several hours or overnight. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze individual portions for quick breakfasts.
