Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the sliced onions and sauté for about 10-12 minutes until they become golden brown and caramelized. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.
- While the onions are cooking, season the chicken breasts with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and dried thyme in a bowl.
- In the same skillet, push the onions to one side, increase the heat to medium-high, and add the chicken breasts. Sear them for about 5 minutes on each side or until browned.
- Once the chicken is browned, pour in the broth and let it simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
- Transfer everything into a baking dish. Top with the sautéed onions and cover the chicken completely with grated Swiss cheese.
Baking
- Place in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes or until the cheese is bubbling and golden.
- In the final 5 minutes of baking, sprinkle the French’s fried onions on top.
Serving
- Once baked, remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
- Enjoy this delightful dish with a side salad or your favorite grain!
Notes
For substitutions, try using mozzarella or a blend of your favorite halal cheeses. Ensure to watch the onions while cooking to achieve perfect caramelization. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
