  • 1.5 lbs beef flank steak, sliced thin For substitution, sirloin or other thin-slicing cuts can be used.
  • 2 cups broccoli florets Chop into bite-sized pieces.
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce Ensure it's Halal.
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch Adjust quantity for preferred sauce thickness.
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Cooked rice, for serving Served as a base.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Start by slicing the beef flank steak thinly against the grain.
  2. Chop broccoli florets into bite-sized pieces.
Making the Sauce
  1. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and water. Whisk until smooth.
Cooking
  1. Place the sliced beef in the bottom of the crockpot and pour the prepared sauce over it.
  2. Add broccoli florets on top of the beef and sauce.
  3. Cover and cook on low for 4-6 hours or on high for 2-3 hours.
  4. Serve over warm rice with extra sauce drizzled from the crockpot.

Notes

Let leftovers cool in airtight containers. They can be stored in the refrigerator for 3-4 days or frozen for up to 3 months. Reheat in the microwave or stovetop, adding a splash of water to maintain moisture.
