Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound halal sausage (smooth or spicy, your choice)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar is a classic)
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 4 cups bread, cubed (day-old bread works best)

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, brown your halal sausage until fully cooked. Break it apart as it cooks for an even texture. Drain any excess fat and set it aside.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  4. In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, layer the cubed bread, cooked sausage, and shredded cheese. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the top.
  5. Gently press down the bread to ensure it’s coated in the egg mixture.
  6. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the casserole is set and lightly golden.
  7. Allow the casserole to rest for 5-10 minutes after removing it from the oven. Slice and serve warm.

Notes

Consider using sautéed vegetables for a meatless version or halal chicken/turkey sausage for a lighter option. Make sure the bread is slightly stale for the best texture.
