Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a skillet over medium heat, brown your halal sausage until fully cooked. Break it apart as it cooks for an even texture. Drain any excess fat and set it aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, layer the cubed bread, cooked sausage, and shredded cheese. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the top.
- Gently press down the bread to ensure it’s coated in the egg mixture.
- Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the casserole is set and lightly golden.
- Allow the casserole to rest for 5-10 minutes after removing it from the oven. Slice and serve warm.
Notes
Consider using sautéed vegetables for a meatless version or halal chicken/turkey sausage for a lighter option. Make sure the bread is slightly stale for the best texture.
