- Begin by gathering all your ingredients. Make sure your cooked pinto beans are drained and ready to go.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté until they soften, about 3-4 minutes. Next, add the minced garlic and cumin, cooking for another minute until fragrant.
- Stir in your cooked pinto beans, mixing them with the onion and garlic. If your beans look a little thick, add the broth or water as needed to achieve your desired consistency.
- Using a potato masher or a fork, mash the beans to your preferred texture—smooth or chunky, it’s up to you! Cook for an additional 5 minutes to blend the flavors.
- Don’t forget to season with salt and pepper! Give them a final stir, and your Easy Refried Beans are ready to serve.
Notes
You can swap out pinto beans for black beans for a different flavor profile. A splash of lime juice adds zest. Ensure you don’t overcook the garlic as it can turn bitter.
