Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Cut the top off the head of garlic, exposing the individual cloves. Drizzle with olive oil and wrap in foil.
- Roast in the oven for about 30-40 minutes or until the cloves are soft and golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool.
Mixing
- Once cooled, squeeze the roasted cloves from their skins into a mixing bowl and mash them into a smooth paste with a fork.
- Add the softened butter and salt to the bowl. If using, add chopped herbs now. Mix until well combined and creamy.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
Serving
- Enjoy immediately or transfer to an airtight container. Refrigerate for up to a week or freeze for extended storage.
Notes
For a dairy-free version, substitute with plant-based butter. Monitor the garlic roasting closely to avoid burning, and ensure the butter is soft enough to blend without lumps.
