Ingredients

For the beef
  • 1 lb ground beef Use halal-certified beef.
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 green onion chopped For garnish.
For serving
  • cooked rice Use as a base for the bowl.
  • vegetables (e.g., carrots, broccoli) For garnish.

Method

Preparation
  1. Gather and measure all your ingredients. Ensure your ground beef is at room temperature for even cooking.
Cooking
  1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, breaking it up with a spatula, until browned and cooked through.
  2. Drain excess fat if necessary. Stir in minced garlic and ground ginger, and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  3. In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce and brown sugar. Pour this mixture over the beef and stir well, letting it simmer for about 2 minutes to thicken slightly.
Serving
  1. Layer your cooked rice in bowls, then top with the beef mix. Garnish with chopped green onions and your choice of fresh vegetables such as carrots or broccoli.
  2. Serve immediately, and watch as your family digs in with delight!

Notes

Substitutions: Use ground turkey or chicken instead of beef for a lighter option. This dish can be made in bulk and refrigerated for quick meals later in the week.
