Base Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure it is at room temperature.
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
Topping Ingredients
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup chopped pecans Feel free to substitute with other nuts.
  • 1 cup caramel sauce Use generously.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Gradually mix in the flour and oats until fully combined.
  4. Press about two-thirds of the mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan.
  5. Sprinkle the chocolate chips and chopped pecans evenly over the base layer.
  6. Drizzle the caramel sauce generously over the chocolate and nuts.
  7. Crumble the remaining oat mixture over the caramel layer.
Baking
  1. Place the pan into the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  2. Let the bars cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares and serving.

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or a sprinkle of sea salt for an extra flavor boost. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week; they freeze well too.
