Ingredients

For the dough base
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
For the filling and topping
  • 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade) Warm before layering for best texture.
  • 1 cup chopped pecans Can substitute with walnuts or other nuts.
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips For drizzling on top after baking.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until fluffy.
  3. Add in eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the wet ingredients until fully combined.
  5. Scoop half of the dough into the greased baking dish, pressing it down into an even layer with your fingers.
  6. Drizzle the caramel sauce over the dough and sprinkle the chopped pecans evenly on top.
  7. Drop spoonfuls of the remaining dough over the caramel and pecan layer. It’s okay if some caramel peeks through.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
  9. Let them cool in the pan for a while, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Once cooled, melt the chocolate chips and drizzle over the top of the bars. Allow to set, then slice into squares.

Notes
