Preparation
- Grate the peeled potatoes and place them in a clean kitchen towel. Squeeze out as much moisture as possible.
- In a large bowl, combine the grated potatoes, shredded cheese, all-purpose flour, and beaten egg. Season with salt and pepper, and mix until evenly combined.
- Take a small amount of the potato mixture and shape it into stick shapes (about 3 inches long).
- Roll each stick in breadcrumbs to coat it thoroughly.
Cooking
- In a large frying pan, heat oil over medium-high heat. To test if the oil is ready, drop a tiny bit of the potato mixture in; it should sizzle.
- Carefully place each stick in the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes on each side.
- Remove the sticks and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
Notes
These cheese sticks pair well with various dipping sauces or sides. Consider serving with a light salad or zesty garlic dip. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days; reheat in the oven or air fryer.
