Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 8 oz cream cheese - softened to room temperature
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter - at room temperature
  • 4 cups powdered sugar - sifted for a smooth texture
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract - to add a touch of flavor
  • 1 pinch salt - to balance the sweetness

Method

Preparation
  1. Ensure that your cream cheese and butter are both at room temperature.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the cream cheese and butter together until fluffy and well-combined, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt, then beat for another minute until well incorporated.
  4. Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing on a low setting to avoid a sugar cloud, then increase the speed. Blend until lump-free and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Taste the frosting and adjust sweetness with more powdered sugar or vanilla if desired.
  6. Use the frosting immediately on desserts or store it for later.

Notes

For a dairy-free version, replace cream cheese with dairy-free cream cheese and margarine. Make sure ingredients are at room temperature to prevent lumps. Sift the powdered sugar to maintain smoothness, and avoid overmixing to prevent a soft consistency. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week or freeze for longer storage.
