Ingredients

For the dough
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup milk (warmed) Ensure milk is warmed but not hot
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
For the filling
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup pistachios, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Method

Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of flour, sugar, and yeast. Pour in warmed milk and melted butter, and mix until well combined.
  2. Add the egg and salt, mixing thoroughly. Gradually add remaining flour until a dough forms.
  3. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover it with a clean cloth. Let it rise in a warm area until it doubles in size (approx. 1 hour).
  5. While the dough is rising, combine the cream cheese, powdered sugar, pistachios, and vanilla in a mixing bowl until blended.
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Evenly distribute the cream cheese mixture over the dough, then sprinkle the ground cinnamon on top.
  8. Tightly roll the dough from one end to the other and slice into 12 equal pieces.
  9. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  10. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Remove from the oven, let them cool slightly, and enjoy warm!

Notes

You can swap all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour or gluten-free flour. Ensure yeast is fresh for best results. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to three months. To reheat, warm in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5-10 minutes.
