  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, chopped Ensure they are fresh and thoroughly washed.
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries Use whole blueberries directly from the container.
  • 1 cup whipped cream For topping.
  • to taste red, white, and blue sprinkles Optional, for decoration.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven as per the directions on the box of your vanilla cake mix. Prepare your baking dish according to the instructions.
  2. Mix the cake ingredients as directed on the box and pour the batter into the prepared dish.
  3. Bake until golden, typically around 25-30 minutes. A toothpick should come out clean when inserted into the center.
  4. Once baked, remove from the oven and allow the cake to cool completely on a wire rack.
  5. While the cake is cooling, wash and chop your strawberries. Keep the blueberries whole.
Assembling
  1. Once the cake has cooled, cut it into squares or rectangular pieces.
  2. Layer in a serving bowl or dish: Place a layer of cake, followed by a layer of whipped cream, and then sprinkle with strawberries and blueberries. Repeat this process until all ingredients are used up.
  3. If desired, add red, white, and blue sprinkles on the top layer.
Chill & Serve
  1. Let the assembled dessert chill in the fridge for about 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

For variations, consider swapping the vanilla cake mix for chocolate cake mix. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
