Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Lightly grease an 8×8 baking dish with butter or cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Using a glass or a round cookie cutter, cut out a circle from the center of each slice of bread.
- Place each slice of bread in the greased baking dish with the cut-out holes facing up.
- Crack one egg into each hole of the bread.
- In a bowl, whisk together the milk with salt and pepper, then pour gently over the bread and eggs.
- Sprinkle shredded cheese on top and add any additional herbs or spices to taste.
Baking
- Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until the eggs are set and the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let it cool slightly before serving.
Notes
For firmer eggs, bake a little longer. For runny yolks, remove a few minutes earlier. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for about 1 month.
