Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 can 28 oz baked beans
  • 4 strips turkey bacon, chopped Ensure the turkey bacon is crispy for the best texture.
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • to taste salt and pepper Be cautious with salt due to bacon's saltiness.

Method

Preparation
  1. Begin by prepping all your ingredients: chop the turkey bacon, dice the onion, and measure out your brown sugar, ketchup, and mustard.
Cooking
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped turkey bacon until it becomes crispy.
  2. Add the diced onion to the skillet and sauté until it becomes soft and translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. In a large pot, combine the baked beans, the crispy turkey bacon, sautéed onions, brown sugar, ketchup, mustard, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Stir until well combined.
  4. Allow the mixture to simmer over medium heat for about 15-20 minutes until the flavors meld and the sauce thickens slightly.
  5. Once done, serve the baked beans hot as a side dish or main dish.

Notes

For a vegetarian option, skip the turkey bacon and replace it with smoked paprika. Store in an airtight container for up to 4 days in the refrigerator or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat gently on the stove or in the microwave.
