Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup milk Warm for yeast activation
  • 1/4 cup sugar For sweetness
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted Adds richness to the dough
  • 1 each egg Room temperature for best results
  • 1 packet active dry yeast About 2 1/4 teaspoons
  • 1 teaspoon salt Enhances flavor
Cinnamon Filling
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon Spice for the filling
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar For sweetness and moisture
Icing Ingredients
  • 1 cup powdered sugar For the icing
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk For icing consistency
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract For flavor in the icing

Method

Preparation
  1. In a small bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Allow it to sit for 5-10 minutes until it's frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and melted butter. Add the yeast mixture and egg, mixing until it forms a soft dough.
  3. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, or until it’s smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Filling and Baking
  1. Combine brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Set aside.
  2. Once risen, punch the dough down and roll it out into a rectangle, about 1/4-inch thick.
  3. Slather the rolled-out dough with softened butter, then sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the top.
  4. Starting from one edge, carefully roll the dough into a log. Slice into 12 equal pieces.
  5. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) while they rise, then bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
Icing
  1. While the rolls are baking, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Drizzle over warm rolls once they’re out of the oven.

Notes

For best results, ensure ingredients like milk and eggs are at room temperature. Knead the dough well for fluffier rolls. Stale rolls can be revived by reheating in the microwave or oven.
