- Finely slice your onions. If sensitive to their aroma, refrigerate them for about 30 minutes before cutting.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, garlic powder, and salt. Gradually add cold water until a smooth, thick batter forms.
- Mix in the shredded cheese until evenly distributed.
Cooking
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high heat. Test readiness by dropping a small amount of batter into the oil; if it sizzles, it's ready.
- Take small handfuls of the sliced onions and dip them into the batter to coat fully.
- Carefully place the coated onions into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per batch, flipping occasionally.
- Remove crispy onion bites and drain on paper towels to absorb excess oil. Serve warm.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in a toaster oven or air fryer to retain crispiness.
