Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 1 cup warm water (around 110°F or 43°C)
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
Topping Ingredients
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 0.25 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
  • Fresh parsley (for garnish, optional)

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and instant yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it’s frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the yeast mixture along with olive oil. Stir until a dough forms.
  3. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead it for about 5 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes or until it has doubled in size.
Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll out the dough to a rectangle about ½ inch thick. Cut into strips, then transfer to a greased baking sheet.
  2. In a small bowl, mix melted butter and garlic powder. Brush this mixture generously over the dough strips.
  3. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses evenly across the dough.
  4. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 15 minutes, or until the breadsticks are golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
Serving
  1. Once done, remove from the oven, garnish with fresh parsley, slice into individual sticks, and serve warm with your favorite sauce!

Notes

For the perfect texture, ensure the dough isn't too sticky. Adjust with extra flour if necessary. To add spice, sprinkle crushed red pepper flakes over the cheese before baking. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 2 months.
