  • 8 slices 8 slices of bread (preferably stale for better absorption) Stale bread works best for better absorption.
  • 4 large 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup 1/2 cup caramel sauce
  • 2 whole 2 apples, peeled and diced Granny Smith or Fuji apples are recommended.
  • 1 teaspoon 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • to taste Whipped cream (for serving) Serve warm.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to get it ready for baking.
  2. Cut the slices of bread into bite-sized cubes and set them aside.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and brown sugar.
  4. Add the bread cubes and diced apples to the egg mixture and gently fold until the bread is well-coated. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes.
Baking
  1. Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish. Layer half of the bread mixture into the dish and drizzle half of the caramel sauce over it.
  2. Add the remaining bread mixture on top, followed by the remaining caramel sauce.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven for 30–35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set.
Serving
  1. Once it’s out of the oven, let it cool for a few minutes, then cut into squares.
  2. Serve warm, topped with whipped cream and an extra drizzle of caramel sauce if desired.

Notes

Use day-old bread like challah or brioche for best results. This casserole can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated overnight.
