Ingredients

Meatloaf Ingredients
  • 1.5 pounds ground beef (or Halal ground turkey for a lighter option)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce (Halal-certified)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
Gravy Ingredients
  • 1 cup beef broth (check for Halal compliance)
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch for the gravy

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until all ingredients are well incorporated but don’t overmix.
  3. Transfer the meat mixture to a lightly greased loaf pan or shape it into a loaf on a baking sheet.
Cooking
  1. Place the loaf in your preheated oven and bake for about 45 minutes or until the meat reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).
  2. In a small saucepan, combine beef broth and cornstarch, stirring to dissolve. Heat on medium until the mixture thickens, stirring constantly.
Serving
  1. Once the meatloaf is done, let it rest for 10 minutes. Slice it up and generously drizzle the brown gravy over the top before serving.

Notes

Substitutions: You can substitute half of the ground beef with finely chopped vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms for added nutrition. Timing: Letting the meatloaf rest after baking is crucial for more flavorful and moist slices. Avoid overmixing to prevent a dense loaf.
