For the Casserole
  • 1 can Flaky biscuits, refrigerated Use a refrigerated can for best results.
  • 1 pound Ground chicken or turkey sausage Ensure it is Halal-certified.
  • 1/4 cup All-purpose flour
  • 2 cups Whole milk Use Halal-certified dairy.
  • 1 cup Chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • to taste Shredded cheese Optional, for topping.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground chicken or turkey sausage until browned and fully cooked, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
  3. Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage, mix thoroughly, and cook for an additional minute.
  4. Gradually whisk in the milk and chicken broth, along with the salt, black pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. Cook until the gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. In a greased baking dish, chop or tear the refrigerated biscuits into quarters and spread them across the bottom.
  6. Pour the sausage gravy mixture evenly over the biscuits.
  7. Bake the casserole in the preheated oven for 25 minutes or until the biscuits are golden and the gravy is bubbling.
  8. If using shredded cheese, sprinkle it on top during the last 5 minutes of baking.
  9. Let the casserole rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

To customize, try different proteins or add toppings like fresh herbs or sautéed veggies. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat at 350°F (175°C) for 15-20 minutes.
