Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Use a finely milled flour for best results.
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder Ensure it's fresh for proper leavening.
  • ½ teaspoon salt Enhances overall flavor.
Wet Ingredients
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed Keep the butter cold to achieve flaky biscuits.
  • ¾ cup buttermilk, cold This helps the biscuits rise beautifully.
  • as needed additional melted butter for brushing Optional, for extra flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  3. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, add the cold, cubed butter into the flour mixture and work until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Pour in the cold buttermilk and stir until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and shape it into a rectangle about 1 inch thick. Fold it over three times for extra fluffiness, then gently roll out to about ¾ inch thick.
  6. Cut out biscuits using a biscuit cutter or glass and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Brush the tops with melted butter before baking.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  2. Serve warm with your favorite spread.
