Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup melted butter (or a halal-friendly substitute) can replace with coconut oil or margarine

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your donut molds or use silicone ones for easy removal.
  2. In a large bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Stir until combined.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the apple cider, granulated sugar, brown sugar, applesauce, and eggs until smooth.
  4. Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to over-mix—the batter should be lumpy!
  5. Using a piping bag or a spoon, fill each donut mold about 2/3 full to allow room for rising.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for about 15–18 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  2. Let the donuts cool for a few minutes before gently removing them from the molds. They are delicious served warm, dusted with cinnamon sugar, or drizzled with your chosen toppings.

Notes

For best results, keep track of baking time as oven performances can vary. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
