Amish Country Casserole

A comforting, old-fashioned casserole filled with tender egg noodles, creamy tomato sauce, and hearty ground beef. Simple, satisfying, and perfect for family dinners or cozy gatherings — this Amish Country Casserole is a true classic!

Ingredients
  

  • 12 oz 340 g egg noodles
  • 1 lb 450 g ground beef
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 1 can 10.5 oz / 300 g cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 can 10.5 oz / 300 g cream of tomato soup (or tomato sauce)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese optional topping
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish, optional

Equipment

  • Large skillet or saucepan
  • Mixing spoon or spatula
  • Large pot for boiling noodles
  • 9x13 inch baking dish
  • Strainer or colander

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook egg noodles in salted boiling water according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, cook ground beef and onion over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  4. Stir in both soups, milk, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well and let simmer for 2–3 minutes.
  5. Add the cooked noodles to the skillet and toss until evenly coated with the sauce.
  6. Transfer the mixture into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
  7. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly on top (if using).
  8. Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes, until bubbly and lightly golden.
  9. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm.

Notes

Substitute ground turkey or sausage for a flavor variation.
Add frozen peas, corn, or mushrooms for extra texture and nutrients.
Can be made ahead — refrigerate before baking and add 10 minutes to the cook time.
Pairs perfectly with green beans or a simple garden salad.
